Première monographie de l’artiste new-yorkais Anthony Cudahy (né en Floride en 1989, vit et travaille à New York), le catalogue rassemble un portfolio d’une quarantaine de peintures récentes, complété d’un cahier spécial reproduisant la trentaine d’oeuvres anonymes ou non attribuées, choisies par le peintre dans les collections du musée des beaux-arts de Dole. Lançant des ponts par-dessus les époques, la conversation que l’artiste engage en peinture, depuis New York, avec les collections jurassiennes, est de l’ordre du sensible, en résonance avec son propre répertoire – fleurs, attitudes amoureuses, portraits – où sont explorés les registres du romantique, de la tendresse et de l’intime.
When New York artist Anthony Cudahy encountered anonymous works from the collections of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dole for his first exhibition in a French institution (April-September 2023), he struck up a conversation with them from which an emotional relationship has emerged; one that is apt to redefine our knowledge of the history of art as well as of the artist’s own painting. In the catalog, the artist converses with Martin Bethenod and Jenna Gribbon, while Marc Donnadieu discusses the heterotopic aspects of his work and Samuel Monier guides the reader through the reserves of the Musée de Dole. Lastly, the photographer Ian Lewandowski has authored a portfolio capturing the artist at intimate moments in his work.
